Instructor Bios


Jorge Machnizh, President & Chief Executive Officer has held leadership positions at some of the most well-known companies in the oil and gas industry, including Paradigm, Halliburton and Schlumberger. He is an accomplished and widely recognized global oil and gas industry executive, who specializes in business turnarounds, restructuring, mergers and acquisitions and strategic planning.

Jorge's ability to identify emerging market trends and technology innovations and capitalize on new business opportunities has been a constant throughout his career. Jorge majored in Geology at the University of Southern California, completed post graduate education in Geophysics at the Colorado Schools of Mines and SEG continued educations, and Columbia University in Sales and Marketing. He has served on the International Association of Geophysical Contractors (IAGC) board, is a member of SEG and EAGE and is affiliated with the Institute for Global Ethics and a contributor to Funds for Teachers. He has numerous technical and business publications worldwide.

 

Francois Lafferriere, Managing Director, Latin America has held numerous technical, consulting and management positions in Latin America's E&P industry, including Austin GeoModeling, Paradigm and Earth Decision Sciences. During his tenure with T-Surf, Francois established the company's Rio office, managed the Petrobras account and served as Technical Team Lead. He also performed reservoir characterization and risk analysis studies for major oil companies, including Petrobras, Repsol and Ecopetrol. Francois earned his MBA from INSEAD and has an M.S. degree in Geology from Ecole Nationale Superieure de Geologie.

 

Scott Taylor, Global Director, Microseismic manages the turnkey delivery of microseismic processing jobs to enable clients to perform the most effective fracture stimulation programs. Scott has been focused on microseismic advancements since 2005, and has participated in more than 100 permanent, real-time monitoring projects for global companies, including Saudi Aramco, Imperial Oil Resources and Canada Natural Resources.

 

Ellen Scott, Completions Engineer & Project Delivery Manager, Microseismic Interpretation, has held several geoengineering positions within SIGMA³. She has experience managing and presenting microseismic projects, performing field studies to optimize stimulation and completion procedures, and executing on-site hydraulic fracture engineering consulting. Ellen began her career in 2010 with Schlumberger in the Middle East. With Schlumberger, she held both field engineering and desk engineering positions. Ellen has a B.S.E. in Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering from Princeton University.
